Magical Athlete

Players: 2–6

Recommended Age: 6+

In Magical Athlete players draft a team of absurd racers (a Centaur, an Egg, a Rocket Scientist, a banana), then roll and move across four heats, scoring for first and second place each time. Every racer has its own wildly unbalanced special ability, and watching those broken powers collide is where all the chaos comes from. It took home the Early Gamers award at this year's American Tabletop Awards, super simple to teach, painfully funny in the moment, and perfect for mixed groups of kids and adults.

Cozy Stickerville

Players: 1–6

Recommended Age: 8+

Cozy Stickerville board game is an experience more than a traditional game. One to six players build a shared village together over a ten-year campaign, peeling and placing stickers, houses, farms, shops, and animals onto a double-sided board while a storybook and event deck guide the narrative. It's cooperative, low-stakes, and really fun, with legacy-style choices that shape how your town looks and feels by the end. Great for families, and a fantastic chill and relaxing pick for couples or parents with younger kids.

Shapely

Players: 3–6

Recommended Age: 8+

Shapely board game is a creative party game for 3–6 players in which everyone gets a prompt word and a set of abstract 3D shape pieces, then races to sculpt something recognizable before the group guesses what it is. Finish fast for bonus points, but rush too much and nobody will be able to guess your masterpiece. It's a fresh spin on the "build and guess" party genre, think Pictionary with abstract pieces instead of a pencil.

Hot Streak

Players: 2–9

Recommended Age: 6+

Hot Streak board game is pure, screaming chaos lol. Bet on crazy looking mascot racers as cards flip to reveal who's charging ahead and who's randomly running backwards. There's zero strategy once the race starts, all your scheming happens in the betting phase which includes adding certain cards to the deck, but that's exactly the point. If you want a game that turns a quiet room into a room full of noise, this is it.

Machi Koro

Players: 2–4

Recommended Age: 10+

Machi Koro is a modern classic in the city-building space. Roll dice, activate the buildings you own, collect coins, and use them to construct new establishments and landmarks. The first player to complete all their landmarks wins. It's got that addictive "just one more turn" pull, light enough for newcomers but with enough strategy and tension to keep it interesting for regulars. A staple for a reason.

Quest for El Dorado

Players: 2–4

Recommended Age: 10+

Quest for El Dorado is a deck-building race through the jungle. Everyone builds a deck of movement cards to speed their people along a winding, modular path toward the temple of El Dorado, picking up better cards, machetes, and shortcuts along the way. It's deck-building stripped of the fiddly combat and economy of heavier games — just pure racing, which makes it one of the best gateway deck-builders out there.

Las Vegas

Players: 2–5

Recommended Age: 8+

Las Vegas is a dice-rolling casino game with a simple but with brilliant gameplay. Everyone rolls at once, then places their dice on numbered casino spaces to compete for cash. Majority wins the pot at each casino, ties cancel each other out, and watching your dice pool shrink while you decide where to commit is pure push-your-luck fun. Easy to teach, quick to play, endlessly replayable.

Tenby

Players: 1–5

Recommended Age: 8+

Tenby is a gorgeous little card-drafting game where you're building the streets of a colorful Welsh seaside town , terraces, piers, and landmarks, over ten rounds. Order cards determine turn sequence, feature-matching drives your scoring, and a bundled solo mode makes it a great pick even for one.

Fliptoons

Players: 1–4

Recommended Age: 10+

Fliptoons card game is a fast, small-box deck-builder with a cartoon casting-call theme. Each round you flip six "toon" cards from your deck into a grid, resolve their talents, tally up Fame, then spend it to recruit better actors or cut the bad ones from your deck. It plays in 20 minutes, teaches in five, and has enough combo potential to keep sharper players engaged. This is a really awesome filler game and now there is Fliptoons Season 2!

DNUP

Players: 2–5

Recommended Age: 8+

DNUP is a clever, fast-moving shedding game from Kei Kajino, the designer behind SCOUT. Every card has two different values, top and bottom, and once it's in your hand you can't flip it, only rotate the whole hand. Play sets, add to others' sets, or steal a set outright, but every action ripples across the table. First to shed twice in a round scores, first to four points wins. If you enjoy "take that" games and card shedding games, you'll love this one.

Quacks (The Quacks of Quedlinburg)

Players: 2–4

Recommended Age: 10+

Quacks board game is a push-your-luck bag-builder where you're brewing potions by drawing ingredient chips from your bag one at a time, but too many cherry blossom chips and your cauldron explodes, costing you points. Wander & Wieland's design is one of the most beloved push-your-luck games ever made for a reason. Draw potions out of a bad and hoping not to explode your cauldron, makes for one exciting game throughout.

Mountain Goats

Players: 2–4

Recommended Age: 8+

Mountain Goats board game is a quick, sharp dice game of area control. Roll four dice, group them however you like, and move your goats up one of six mountains, but only one goat can hold the summit at a time, and getting knocked off sends you back to square one. It's all about timing. If you climb too early and someone will boot you right back down. The game comes in a small box and another great 20 minute filler game.
