Description:
Celtae board game is a worker-swapping board game built around a rondel, where players take turns swapping one of their three active workers for a worker on an action space to perform that action, with effectiveness boosted by matching worker types (farmers, builders, soldiers, and nobles). The farming action draws cards used for building, battle prep, or engaging the druid order; the build action lets players construct and expand citadels for endgame scoring, triggering randomized bonuses that can combo powerfully; the battle action lets players fight increasingly tough Roman armies and garrison citadel outskirts; and the recruit action brings new workers into a player's tribe, with certain workers sent to the druid order granting favor and a versatile "joker" druid worker. Each player also has a leader card that can either stay on its easier, lower-scoring side or flip to a harder, higher-scoring heroic side. Additionally, every full rotation of the rondel's action marker lets the player holding Teutates' favor mark a progress card, and only marked progress cards score at game's end—meaning players must continually shape which objectives will ultimately count.
